Currently hanging in seven virtues are the paintings of Guenevere Schwien.  Schwien’s current series of motorcycle-inspired paintings are a feast of contradictions.  They are simultaneously photo-realistic and abstract.  The liberties she takes with color and composition convey the freedom of riding a motorcycle, while her tight and refined brushwork imply the control one must also exercise with a bike.  The cool tones of chrome machinery are accented by fiery highlights.  The choices Schwien makes (whether in composition, color,  size) are as bold as her subject matter.
